The Party, the Sponsor, and the opening of doors...

The Story starts something like this...

As part of my (Louis Minnaar) final year in communication design at the Open Window Academy in Pretoria, I had to complete a project that involved making a music video for any South African musician. I approached a friend of mine, Jacob Israel and asked him if I could use one of his tracks for the project. He agreed, and, to make a long story short, I entered it into a couple of International short film festivals. It ended up getting in to one... The Imago young international short film festival in Fundao, Portugal. The video is called: "Her Narnian Horse Analogy" featuring the awesome physical talents of Tamith Hattingh. (whoop whoop) Check it out here.

After the news, we approached Levi's Young Guns to hear if they would be able to sponsor our trip, and we ended up having a fund raiser in correspondence with them. We got super ill electro support from YESTERDAY's PUPIL, MTKIDU, AJAX, DATA TAKASHI & SASSQUATCH and MR. KNOWBODY, who all played for free. Just because they are cool like that. Whats more, two of our dear friends also approached us and offered to help us out with a most handsome fee... thanks guys.

So... Long story short, we got to go to Portugal and represent South Africa at the festival. Sweet!

Here are some of the digital pictures that I took...

arriving in Lisbon

the long drive to Fundao from Lisbon.

misrepresentation...

this made our sign language attempts easier and eliminated embarrassing noises like "moo..."

I think they might have thought that I will be escorted by a 2 dimensional, blond singer of sorts...

this might look good, but try eating it every day with only the option of ham, ham and cheese, or cheese...

strange habits- we actually saw this in a couple of places

shelter from the rain... not knowing about the coffee shop 30 meters away.

loved being stranded in the rain

I found this place with the softest, finest grass that looked like fog.

the streets of fundao.

on the way down the mountain there are little mountain towns with mountain people who dont like cameras

this was actually taken at the airport in Madrid when we just started our trip, so it needs to be up there ^ somewhere...

some weird looking people on the outskirts of Fundao

another common sight in Fundao

in case you were wondering, the shaped photos are cut-out cardboard masks that I put inside my camera over the film.

the local baby dealer was just setting her merchandise out when we got there

yellow filter, x mask- fun!
